Most people come to chat to share their thoughts, opinions and ask questions on a myriad of current events and subjects. Some chatters share jokes, oddities found on the web, work, and what's going on with themselves and their families. This is all good fun and makes chat enjoyable and leaves the welcome mat out at the entrance. Chatters that come to disrupt, troll and bait are not welcome. Those types of posts disrupt chat, spark anger and only make for a negative atmosphere and again, not welcome. Please refrain from doing so or a host will escort you out, aka kick you. At the same time, you have the ability to ignore chatter(s) whose posts you may not care for or are otherwise distasteful to YOU. Use this feature but keep in mind its not necessary to announce your using it to the rest of the chatroom.
On the same subject, if you believe that trolling, baiting or other abuses of the Terms of Use are occurring in the chatroom, TAKE IT TO A HOST! Thats is to say it is not necessary for a chatter to post, "Trolling, trolling..." or "thats is baiting" or the similar. Let a host know if you believe another chatter is engaging in chat contrary to the Terms Of Use. If you are not comfortable taking your complaint to the host or a host is not available email the room owner, Otis.
Be a responsible chatter and keep Cheers a great place to chat and meet friends!
Terms of use for the Cheers Chatroom and the Message Forum:
Due to the actions of a few, we feel that it has become necessary to state our policies in greater detail regarding usage of the Cheers chatroom and message forum.
We firmly respect the right to free speech. However, we feel that there should be a common sense distinction between exercising that right in a reasonable manner and those who would use their free speech rights to personally attack individuals in our chatroom or forum or to persistently post with the intent of disrupting and harassing the owners, current staff of Cheers, or individual members.
We have many people with differing views as to what is acceptable and what they may personally find offensive. The owners have frequently found themselves juggling the conflicting opinions of the entire membership in an attempt to find a happy medium. Unfortunately this has often resulted in someone walking away unhappy if theirs was not the prevailing opinion.
We understand and respect that not everyone will agree with the way we administrate our room or boards. That is your right. It is our right however to not be threatened, harassed, insulted, or defamed in our own room or on our own message forum. We owe no one the right or opportunity to do so.
The Cuckooznest, and by extension - Cheers, is operated by individuals and we do have the right to make determinations as to what we find to be appropriate conduct in our room and on our message forum. If this offends you, you are free to find another room to chat in or another board to post on. It's that simple.
IP numbers are logged when you post on the board or come into the room. If necessary, we can use those numbers to identify most people, regardless of the nickname they are using. If it becomes necessary to delete a member's account on the message forum, and that person attempts to create a new account to continue disrupting, upon identification via IP number or ISP, we will automatically delete the new account without warning or explanation. This also applies to bans placed in the chatroom.
Generally these are the types of activities which may cause someone to be banned from both the chatroom and/or message forum:
In regards to the chatroom specifically, Cheers hosts reserve the right to kick and/or ban chatters that disrupt the chatroom. Situations
may arise that require them to make a judgement call as to what is appropriate
for our room. You may disagree with those judgement calls and if you do, you may email with your specific concern. However, it will not be discussed in the room nor will the hosts be harassed by other chatters for their decisions. If there was an error made by the host, it will be resolved directly between the host and room owners. Directives from the hosts are to be heeded or you can
be kicked and/or banned. This is a registered room with owners and
we reserve the right to restrict access to chatters that will not comply
with our hosts or guidelines.
Revised: Jan 4, 2004. We reserve the right to revise these terms as needed.
